Vaccine Policy
Our Approach to Vaccines
At Growing Up Pediatrics, we believe vaccines play a vital role in keeping children and communities healthy. We fully support the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations and schedule for childhood immunizations. We also believe in creating a space where families can have open, respectful conversations about their choices. Our goal is to support parents in making informed decisions that are grounded in science, guided by compassion, and centered around your child’s well-being.
A Thoughtful, Intentional Vaccine Policy
While we fully support the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations for childhood immunizations, we recognize that each family’s journey is unique. Our practice allows for flexibility within defined parameters so that we can work together toward full protection for your child.
The vaccines required for all patients in our practice have been intentionally selected to balance medical evidence, community health, and thoughtful flexibility.
By 18 months of age, children must have received:
- 3 DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis)
- By 24 months of age, children must have received:
- 1 MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
By 72 months of age, children must be up to date on the following:
- 4 DTaP
- 3 IPV (Polio)
- 3 Hepatitis B
- 2 MMR
- 2 Varivax (Chickenpox)
Partnership and Communication
We understand that some families prefer to move more slowly through the schedule. We will continue to support thoughtful discussion and individualized planning. Parents who choose to vaccinate on an alternative schedule will be asked to sign GUP’s Vaccine Refusal Form at each well visit when a recommended vaccine is deferred.
Practice Alignment
We are a great fit for families who:
- Value vaccines as an essential part of lifelong health
- Appreciate open, evidence-based discussion about timing and safety
- Seek a trusted, long-term relationship with a pediatric team that provides both guidance and flexibility
We are not a good fit for families who have decided not to vaccinate. Protecting vulnerable children is a shared responsibility and we are unable to provide ongoing care for patients who choose not to meet these vaccine requirements, unless a verifiable medical exemption exists.
At Growing Up Pediatrics, our goal is partnership – working together to keep your child and our community safe, healthy, and thriving.
