Phone advice

After hours’ phone calls are initially referred to a pediatric triage nurse service Growing Up Pediatrics Final 2016-048when parents call the main number to the practice 704-895-9060.  These registered nurses give advice on all areas of care and will call the on call provider if necessary.

We do not share call with another group so you will know if the nurse calls a provider she will be speaking with either Dr. Wendy, Dr. Wescott, Dr. Carrie, or Valorie, our nurse practitioner.

As a practice we request that if a triage nurse is concerned the patient may need to go to an urgent care or emergency room, the nurse should first call the on call provider to discuss the patient’s symptoms. Often we can then offer advice to assist patients in decreasing symptoms and waiting until the office opens the next day. If the patient’s symptoms or injury warrants an emergent visit we discuss the most appropriate level of care.

In the event of a life threatening emergency, parents should either call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room.

Emergency Care

If our provider refers your child to an emergency department for evaluation as she is concerned your child may need admission to the hospital, the triage nurse will specify either Presbyterian Pediatric ED downtown Charlotte, NorthEast ED in Concord, or Levine’s Children’s Hospital ED in downtown Charlotte.  For “routine” emergency visits we recommend the above ED’s as well as Presbyterian Huntersville ED and CMC’s ED Huntersville at Northcross.

For orthopedic (muscle/bone injuries) emergencies after hours we recommend OrthoCarolina Orthopedic Urgent Cares. Please visit their website for locations and hours. If your child is seen for a fracture or sprain and needs follow up, please call our office and we can arrange follow up with a local OrthoCarolina provider.  If your child as an injury during office hours, please call our office as we generally can arrange a same day appointment with an orthopedic provider if the injury warrants.
