Wendy G. Talley, MD, FAAP

Dr. Wendy received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed medical school at East Carolina University School of Medicine. She trained at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham and served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics. In 1997 she relocated to the Lake Norman area and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, board certified pediatrician. In June 2000 she opened Growing Up Pediatrics (GUP). Her special interests include integrative pediatrics.

Christina A. Wescott, MD, FAAP

In October 2008, GUP welcomed Christina A. Wescott, MD. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. She then moved to Richmond and attended the Medical College of Virginia. There she also completed her pediatric residency and served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics. After residency, she worked for two years for a community health center in an underserved rural area of eastern North Carolina. In 2005 she became a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a board certified pediatrician. We are fortunate that she is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Wescott and her husband, Tim, their daughter and son live in Huntersville.

Carrie Gregory, MD

Dr. Carrie completed her undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Geneseo, graduating magna cum laude in 2006.  She then attended medical school at the University of Rochester in New York.

After medical school, Dr. Carrie moved to Providence, RI for her pediatrics residency at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital.  There she became a Fellow of the American Board of Pediatrics in 2013.  Her career as a board certified pediatrician then began at Barrington Pediatrics, in Barrington, Rhode Island.   Dr. Carrie worked with the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and continues a special interest in the care of breastfeeding mothers and children. 

In August 2016, Dr. Carrie, her husband, Hammurabi, and toddler age daughter, Julia, moved to the Lake Norman area. Her husband is on faculty at Davidson College.  Julia, who doesn’t know a stranger, has quickly become the family’s self-appointed ambassador to the new neighborhood. 

Valorie S. Byrd, FNP-C

In November 2014 we welcomed Valorie S. Byrd as our nurse practitioner. Valorie has been a familiar face to GUP as one of our RN’s and as office manager since the practice opened in 2000.  A few years ago she decided to return to school to further her education. In August 2014 she completed her Masters in Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from UNC-Charlotte. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Valorie, her husband, Ken, their teenage daughter and son, dogs and cows live in Statesville.
